ONE THING I KNOW CD

All lyrics written by Deb Mantel unless otherwise noted.

1. YOU DON'T KNOW

One of the first songs I wrote as a Christian. God began to show me how often I refused to go to Him when I was hurting, ultimately because of a lack of belief in His love for me. I was still trying to "get it all together" so that I could present myself to Him in a somewhat respectable manner - who can do that??

You try so hard to make everyone believe that everything's alright
Don't want nobody knowing you cry yourself to sleep at night
You've got something on your mind and you're trying to find
Somewhere to go, someone who knows how to ease the pain

But you stay away from the One who loves you so
And you don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you
He loves you so

And it hurts Him so to see us in need and not coming to His side
Our we denying the cross on which He hung, the cross on which He died?
Saying, "It's too big, it's too small, oh, it's nothing at all.
He doesn't care, He's not there." Well, beware, it's just a lie.

And you don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you
He loves you so

But you say that you're happy where you are right now
And if you weren't that it wouldn't matter anyway
But I know that's a lie 'cause He loves you now
Where you are right now
Where you are right now

But you're trying alone and you're living on your own strength and getting weaker everyday
And you're finding you're falling much too much, more than you'd like to say
But you keep pressing on, saying, "Someday I'll be strong."
It doesn't feel right, and you know why, 'cause you've got it all wrong

And you don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you
He loves you so
And you don't know, no, no

But you say that you're happy where you are right now
And if you weren't that it wouldn't matter anyway
But I know that's a lie 'cause He loves you now
Where you are right now
Where you are right now

But you're trying alone and you're living on your own strength and getting weaker everyday
And you're finding you're falling much too much, more than you'd like to say
But you keep pressing on, saying, "Someday I'll be strong."
It doesn't feel right, and you know why, 'cause you've got it all wrong

And you don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you, no
You don't know how much He loves you
He loves you so
And you don't know, no, no
You don't know
You don't know

2. TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

My take on this classic hymn. I didn’t grow up singing hymns, so sometimes I come across a hymn with beautiful words and reshape it a bit and add my own tune. This hymn is an intimate prayer to God.

Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Let them flow in ceaseless praise

Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Swift and beautiful for Thee

Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart it is Thine own
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne

Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee
Filled with messages from Thee

Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart it is Thine own
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne

Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store
Take myself and I shall be
Ever, only, all for Thee
Ever, only, all for Thee
Ever, only, all for Thee

3. LET ME WAKE

We all go through seasons of getting distracted by the cares and concerns of this world. God, in His goodness and mercy, not only shows us that we have lost our "first love," but also gives us a desire to love Him passionately, as He loves us.

My heart needs waking, Lord
It seems I've drifted off to sleep
Lulled by the things that this world offers
Things I can buy but cannot keep

My heart was Yours once
O, may it be again
Drive away the slumber of my soul
And let me wake to You again

I used to long for things of heaven
I had a passion and a fire
I used to come into Your presence
And worship there before my Great Desire

My heart was Yours once
O, may it be again
Drive away the slumber of my soul
And let me wake to You again

Let me wake to You again
Let me see You in Your glory
Let me love You once again
The way You love me
The way You love me

4. ONE THING I KNOW

This song is my theme song. The truth of God's unchanging, unconditional love; His intimate knowledge of me and tender care for me; and the promise that I will see Him face to face, completely overwhelm me!

I am loved with an everlasting love
And underneath are the everlasting arms
I am loved by the One who gave His only Son
I am loved with an everlasting love

I am known by the One who knows all
I am watched by a tender, loving eye
I need not fear the darkest night, for the One who is the light
Watches me with a tender, loving eye

Jesus, my redeemer
Has bought me with a price and I am His
And there’s one thing that I know
He will never let me go
I am loved with an everlasting love

One day I’ll see my Savior face to face
I’ll hear his voice telling me I’m finally home
And I will be forevermore with the One whom I adore
The one who loves me with an everlasting love

Jesus, my redeemer
Has bought me with a price and I am His
And there’s one thing that I know
He will never let me go
I am loved with an everlasting love
Yes, I am loved with an everlasting love

5. FOUND BY LOVE

This song tells the story of my longing to be found by love. We continue to try to fill the desires of our hearts in the wrong way, but God knows what we really need. Through Jesus Christ, He fills every desire.

When I was a little girl of  five
And my whole world would come crashing down
I'd find a quiet place to hide
Secretly hoping to be found

Found by Love, deep and wide
Found by Love that knows no bounds
Everything in my spirit cried,
"I am wanting to be found."

I built up walls no one could climb
Trying to keep the heartache out
But in my loneliness I'd find
I was still waiting to be found

Found by Love, deep and wide
Found by Love that knows no bounds
Everything in my spirit cried,
"I'm desperately wanting to be found."

I heard Your voice calling me name
I felt Your mercy flowing down
Washing away my guilt and shame
And I knew I'd finally been found

Found by Love, deep and wide
Found by Love that knows no bounds
Everything in my spirit cried,
"Hallelujah! I've been found.
Hallelujah! I've been found.
Hallulujah! I've been found."

6. ANGEL BAND

Though I didn’t grow up singing hymns, I did learn some great bluegrass gospel tunes. This is one of my favorites. We are called to run our race until Jesus comes and takes us home.

My latest sun is sinking fast,
My race is nearly run;
My strongest trials now are past,
My triumph is begun.

Oh, come, angel band,
Come and around me stand;
Oh, bear me away on your snowy wings
To my eternal home;
Oh, bear me away on your snowy wings
To my eternal home.

Oh, bear my longing heart to Him,
Who bled and died for me;
Whose blood now cleanses from all sin,
And gives me victory.

7. WHERE COULD I GO

Another bluegrass gospel song. I love the simplicity of this message. Really, where can we go, other than to Jesus, to meet our deepest needs?

Living below in this old sinful world
Hardly a convert can afford
Striving alone as temptations call
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?
Seeking a refuge for my soul
Needing a friend to help me in the end
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Neighbors are fine; I love them every one
We get along in sweet accord
But when my soul needs manner from above
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?
Seeking a refuge for my soul
Needing a friend to help me in the end
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Life here is grand; my friends I love so well
Comfort I get from God's own word
But when I face this chilling hand of death
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?
Seeking a refuge for my soul
Needing a friend to help me in the end
Where could I go but to the Lord?

8. PSALM 103

Written by a friend, I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. God's love reaches to the heavens and causes our sins to be cast from us as far as the east is from the west.

As far as the east is from the west
So far has He cast away our sin
He pities us so because He knows we are His children

As far as the heavens in the sky
So far is His steadfast love high
His anger is slow, His mercy wide, He will not always chide

So bless the Lord, O, my soul
Bless the Lord, O, my soul
And don't forget that His love has made you whole

So bless the Lord, O, my soul
Bless the Lord, O, my soul
And don't forget that His love has made you whole

He takes away our iniquity
And crowns us instead with mercy
Our youth is renewed because He heals our diseases

As for man his life soon fade
But the Lord knows our frame
And that is why, His love He's made to keep us forever

So bless the Lord, O, my soul
Bless the Lord, O, my soul
And don't forget that His love has made you whole

So bless the Lord, O, my soul
Bless the Lord, O, my soul
And don't forget that His love has made you whole

9. IN THE PRESENCE OF YOUR LOVE

We get so distracted, thinking about all the things we want and think we need.  We wrestle with our desires and cry out to God to keep us close in the presence of His love.

My mind’s been wandering, Lord, help me
The thoughts running through my head
Thinking ‘bout all the things I want and the things I need
As I’m lying here in bed
I’ve got an aching in my soul
Sweet Jesus, never let me go
Far from the Presence of Your Love

Well I’ve been wrestling with my desires most of the night
And my heart needs fixing, Lord, ‘cause something tells me
Something just ain’t right
Still got that aching in my soul
Sweet Jesus, never let me go
Far from the Presence of Your Love

Lord, I never want to leave You
So, don’t let my heart stray
Believe me when I tell You
I always want to stay
Here in the Presence of Your Love

But my mind keeps wondering, Lord, help me
The thoughts running through my head
Thinking ‘bout all the things I want and the things I need
I should be thinking ‘bout You instead
Still got that aching in my soul
Sweet Jesus, never let me go
Far from the Presence of Your Love

10. I'LL FLY AWAY

I've sung this song for years. When it came time to record it for this CD, I was filled with a longing and a sadness...a longing to "fly away" and be with God, and a mournful sadness because my brother Tim had gone ahead of me and I missed him terribly. I will see him again.

Some glad morning when this life is o'er
I'll fly away
To a home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have grown
I'll fly away
Like a bird from prison bars has flown
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joy shall never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away
